ONE DAY MEDICINE WALK
A Medicine Walk is a daylong meditative hike that is often done as a mini-vision
quest. "Medicine" is a native term that means anything that helps us in our spiritual, physical and emotional healing.
Its focus is on listening to Spirit through the voices of the nature beings, landscapes and elements that we encounter
on the journey.
It begins with a sunrise ceremony at the facilitators home in Mattituck,
and an orientation to the principles of receiving guidance from nature and attuning to the presence of Spirit as you walk.
We will then carpool to the preserve (most likely Mashomack Preserve on
Shelter Island)
The walk can be undertaken either while fasting (if you feel comfortable
with that) or a picnic lunch and energy-rich snacks can be brought. You will be given awareness exercise and journal
questions to help you focus your time. You may stop to journal during your walk. Silence and Solitude are essential
to the nature of this hike, so we will designate a place to meet before the preserve closes (time dependent
on sundown time). The facilitator will orient you to the hiking trails, and will be available if needed.
Then we will return to the facilitator's home for sharing our experiences
and a potluck meal, closing the day at sundown with a Ceremony on our cliff overlooking the Long Island Sound (picture
at Right)
There is no cost for the actual hike, as we can not charge fees while we are in public preserves.
However there is a charge for the orientation and closing events which are essential parts of the process.
Those who are interested are welcome to have a follow-up counseling session during the month after
the Medicine Walk to help you fully integrate it's medicine into your life, at a reduced fee.
I will do this hike whenever I have a group of 3 or more people who are interested. Let me know
of your interest in advance and we'll schedule a date.
