to make the journey.
In December of 2007, I had the great privilege of facilitating a Coming of Age Ceremony for a young woman who had just
gotten her first period. It was an incredibly beautiful experience for the mother
and daughter and little sister, and for me! It made me realize how important
it is for us to celebrate these transitions in our lives in community, and to honor the wisdom of the feminine and our time-honored
connection with the lunar cycles. The wild popularity of the book, “The
Red Tent” by Anita Diamant, (a historical fiction about women’s ancient moon cycle traditions in the Middle East in Biblical times) speaks to our hunger for reclaiming
our women wisdom ways.
This series is designed to bring a group of women (from menarche through menopause) through a complete lunar cycle together,
as we learn about the deep rooted traditions that women have celebrated from time immemorial. We will discover ways of honoring
our own cycles and the spiritual gifts of our moon time and menopause, and learn how important they are in transforming our
culture. We will also learn to take care of ourselves and our sisters in beautiful, life-enhancing ways. We will draw upon
wisdom from both Native American & ancient matriarchal cultures.
The first session will take place on the new moon, a time when women would often begin menstruation. It will provide an overview and then focus on the turning inward to sacred receptivity that is needed at
this time. The second session will include a Full Moon Celebration Ritual, and the third session will focus on honoring the
larger cycles of our lives. Invite your daughter or grandmother, or babysit for
a young mother so she can come. Let’s make a commitment to fostering intergenerational bonds and passing
down the wisdom. The world needs it!
The first 2 sessions
will include a light soup supper, as there is a lot to share, and we want to arrive before dark and be fully present with
the night as it falls and the full moon as it rises. We will meet in a cozy meditation
room Moon Lodge and also outdoors in our Medicine Wheel Circle, if possible. Wear appropriate clothing for warmth & comfort.
Commitment to All 3 sessions is required.
The cost for the series is $50 for adult women
$18 for women under 18
$30 for elders (over 65)
(sliding scale offered for all of these).
The dates & times will be chosen by Grandmother
Moon, in consultation with the group members who would like to participate.
